Setting Up UAT as an Authority Site

* If you want to set up an authority website, we recommend using UAT2 which supports unlimited product types, unlimited sets of product comparison specs, and connects to the Amazon API.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to set up the Ultimate Azon Theme as an “Authority” Style website.  Many people don’t realize but UAT works great for these style of websites.

Step 1 – Choose a domain name

make sure that you do not use the name of any products in your chosen domain name. You want something that can be turned into a Brand.

Step 2 – Install Ultimate Azon Theme

If you already have UAT installed, you can skip to the next section. If not, here’s how you do it.

Log into your WordPress website

Click on “Appearance” in your left admin dashboard.

Click the “Add New” button then click the “Upload Theme” button

Choose the folder you downloaded to your computer, upload it, then activate it.

Make sure top go enter your license key in the settings in order to receive support and get updates.

Step 3 – Setting Your Main Product Type

Click on “Product Settings” under “Ultimate Azon” in the left admin column

Name your main product type something more general like “Products, Reviews, Gear, Top-Picks” or something that could apply to many different product types. In the authority demo site,, I used the term “Reviews”. That is very broad of a topic for my site and there are many many different types of games I can write reviews about.A few more examples would be: “Camping Gear, Home Security, Gadgets, Tools” you get the idea. Choose something general that will cover all types of products in your niche.

Next you will be creating your “Custom Product Specifications. Make these very general as well. Choose things that will apply to all products in your niche. Choose custom specifications like “Brand, Avg. Rating, Features, Warranty, Price, Buy Now”.You will see the two specifications I chose to add to the authority demo site were “Age Recommendation & Features”.This keeps it simple and optimal for the way UAT, it’s functions, and it’s layouts work.

Step 4 – Creating your “Main Product” Categories

this is where you will create your different types of products you will be reviewing. I(n the authority site example I used ten different categories of games and puzzles that I wanted to review.

Here are a few more examples:

Camping Website – Tents, Coolers, Camping Chairs, Sleeping Bags, etc…
Tools Website – Hammers, Screw Drivers, Mauls, Rakes, Shovels, etc …

You get the idea. The screen you add your main product categories looks like this.

Step 5 – Creating your Product Reviews

Now that you have your main product type, general custom product specifications, and product categories set up, it’s time to add some reviews.

In the left admin column of your dashboard, Hover over your new “Main Product Type” (mine is Reviews), and click “Add New”. This will take you to a blank product page for you to edit.

Make sure you check off the “Product Category” in the right column to organize your review into the right segmentation. Remember, all reviews will be under this single post type, so these product categories is the level they will be separated on.

Step 6 – Adding your Product Categories to the Navigation

Now that you have everything set up and a few reviews created, and tagged with the product category, the next step is adding the product categories to the navigation.

First look for that little “Screen Options” tab at the top right of your screen. Click on that and make sure that “Ultimate Azon Special Page Links” and “Product Categories” are checked off. You will see that once they are, those two sections will be displayed in your left column of links you can easily add to your menus.

Now you can add the “Product categories” that you created and tagged images in. These Product Category archive pages will display just like the main product type archive page – with the “Quick Links” dropdown and all.

That’s all there is to using UAT to create an “Authority Website” instead of a “single product website“. Remember that a theme is just a tool for you to use, it’s the effort and content you put into using any given theme that really matters.
